Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
